There are different types of language interpreters depending on their nature of work, the manner in which they are recruited and the kind of role they play.
Freelance Interpreters
They are self-employed interpreters and are contacted either by interpreting and translating businesses or by other private clients. Freelance interpreters could be registered with big multinational companies who get in touch with them when they require their services.
In-House/Staff Interpreters
These interpreters are employees of big multi-national companies. Ideally, they work for a minimum of three-hour sessions every week. Another three hours are left for their revision, glossary making and preparation.
Conference Interpreters
Such an interpreter generally works at the international conferences either consecutively or simultaneously. A conference interpreter may be full-time employees or even freelancers. These interpreters are comfortable with speaking several languages. But they typically interpret only into their mother tongue.
Public Sector Interpreters
Interpreters who work in the public sector usually use liaison/consecutive interpreting. They ideally work in a bidirectional manner. To put it simply, they can interpret into both the languages. You will find these interpreters in fields like environmental health, welfare services, education, housing, social, local government, health and legal jobs.
Business/Escort Interpreters
An escort interpreter will accompany a team of delegates or an individual person on tours, interviews or meetings.
